This summer has flown by! We are now in September! I had meant to write this post weeks ago 😅.

The garden was a total flop this year! I got vegetable plants planted. The chickens, goats, and maybe deer went and uprooted the plants and ate a bunch of them. The covering I had put down was pulled up and in disarray all over the place. There was coco puff looking poo (poo pellets) in there. I’m leaning towards deer since when the goats are out we keep a keen eye on them. We do have a somewhat of a gate for the garden but it’s easily breeched. Something we have to work on for next year.

Since the garden was a flop I planted 8 pumpkin pie seeds. These would produce the small pumpkins, best known to be used for baking pumpkin pies! It was exciting to see that the seeds sprouted. However, the kids moved them and some of the plants died so I only have 5 plants left. 🙄 Which these plants are holding on. I brought them inside, watered them. Hopefully they will recover. Below are the pumpkin plants.

We are dealing with the green house yet again. When the cover had blown off the last time, we left it off for a while. FINALLY today we put it back on. We used string to tie it down to the bottom pole of the green house. Fingers crossed it stays! We had tried to keep the cover on before with rocks and heavy buckets on the bottom of the cover around the whole green house, but the wind still blew it off. The green house did have ties in the inside of the cover but those had fallen off from the elements? They just came off.

We used the orange rope from the hay stacks to tie down the green house. There are three straps of ropes across the green house. One in the front, one in the middle, and one in the back. The green house is super dirty but I figured it would be easy to hose off. Below is the glamorous picture of part of the green house. 😅

The backyard chicks we had hatch from eggs…pictured below…are fully independent! It’s amazing to see the hen raise the chicks but then leave them when they were still so young! We have had several other hens raise chicks and they always stayed together for several months.

There are a total of 4 ‘chicks’. 3 red and one white. It was hard to get them together for a group picture.

Our duck, Momma D, has been chilling. I don’t have a recent picture of her but she has been going around our other pekin ducks. No more sitting on eggs. Hopefully, they will be friends soon! Below is a picture of the baby ducks we got earlier this year. Not babies anymore, in fact they are trying to do the hanky panky in the photo.😂 We have yet to get any eggs from the ‘baby’ pekin ducks!

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy your weekend!
