Last weekend we picked up our 2019 chick batch!

This year’s batch consist of plymouth barred rocks and brahmas! We have 4 adult plymouth barred rocks right now. They are black, white, and gray. Abram is holding one below!

Brahma chick

We have never owned Brahmas. These are our first. I have read that they are supposed to be large but docile and sweet. We will see!

Both of these breeds are dual purpose…meaning they lay eggs and can be used as meat birds. Our original plan was getting 7 chicks but Jacob insisted on more since he will be slaughtering some of these later. I’m thinking of taking on bets if he will slaughter them or love them. LOL.

You can read my original post on bringing home chicks and setting up the brooder. I also have the chick supply list on there! Check it out! 🙂
