Happy Friday! I just realized I never posted Friday on the Backyard Farm #58 😂. I had written it last summer and forgot to post it and that was the last one for a while! I read over it quickly, basically dealing with a hawk and a rooster spurring me in the hand (which caused my hand to swell). I think I’ll post it either this weekend or next week! Stay tuned!

First, a little bit about my website. I re-did my blog’s home page. I’m trying to make it more organized and easier to find information!

Also, I had to create where if someone wants to leave a comment, they must make an account and log in. Hopefully that works! This is to cut out spam.

Our garden didn’t make it this year! We have been getting deer in the yard frequently and they kept going into the garden ripping up the weed cover. I gave up. I planted the two tomato plants, and three jalapeno plants that were left from our vegetable plants into pots/buckets. For herbs, I have a basil, oregano, lavender, and rosemary plant.

The tomato plant is flowering and there’s a little jalapeno growing! I put chicken fencing over the tomato plant to guard it from the chickens.

Our green house is still struggling with the cover. All I can say is if you get a green house make sure you can easily buy a replacement cover if needed!

We had some egg drama going on. Our Speckled Sussex hen, Clara, was sitting on eggs and our Ameraucana hen, Tinky, stole the eggs and hatched a couple herself! I thought Clara stopped being broody. We have more than one speckled Sussex, so I thought she was done. No, ended up she sat on eggs in a hidden corner. 😂

Not all the eggs hatch, Tinky hatched 2 chicks and Clara hatched 1.

Talking about the chicks reminds me that we haven’t seen the hawk in a while now. The chicks and momma hens were hanging out in a pen. Unfortunately, Tinky had been brutally pecking Clara in the head. Clara’s chick kept going through a hole in a board so would chill outside the pen. Clara’s chick ended up getting injured so we brought Clara and her chick in. I don’t know if a chicken pecked at the chick or the chick hurt it’s back on the chicken wire or something else sharp. I’ll post a picture below. It’s healed a bit.

We have been revamping all the animal pens. Tarps need to be replaced, along with some of the wood. Our lawn mower broke so the goats have been busy with long grass and brush. Thinking about it now, I didn’t take a picture of the goats with the tall grass but I’ll make sure to get one! I put a picture of our goat milk house, the tarp roof is being replaced:
