Maymont is a historical estate of 100 acres located in Richmond, VA that was home to James and Sallie Dooley from the late 1800s to the early 1900s.  The estate has a large mansion surrounded by beautiful gardens, pathways, and lush green grass.  Nearby there is a Nature Center (with an admission fee), farm, and other animals to visit.  This a perfect place for a family outing.  Lots of grass for kids to frolic, trees for them to climb, and “secret pathways” for them to discover while walking through the gardens!  They will be sleeping good on the way home ;).  Sometimes horse drawn carriage rides are offered for a small fee by the mansion.  It is also a place where people can have their weddings.

The Nature Center has a lot of different animals: alligators, fish, otters, turtles, etc that can be seen.  There are activities the kids can play with while learning about some of the animals.  It’s a great place to walk through while learning about the animals.

When we go we always pack a lunch, then stroll the gardens.  Sometimes we will go to the Nature Center but usually just walking the gardens has us nice and tired.  Click on the picture below to see a slide show!
