Happy Friday!! Glad it’s the weekend! We haven’t had too many things going on around here, but that’s a good thing! 😉 However, here is what has been going on!
We have officially made a garden area! This area is right behind our girl goat pen (which is our vegetable garden area. Check here for more information on that situation 😅 ). I have a picture below of the area and of course a chicken is helping out!
Jacob has created little hills or rows for the plants, which are not pictured here. We do need to get fencing up. Hopefully that will either be this week or next week. Our vegetable plants are hanging out in the green house.
Someone (ahem, a chicken or possibly a cat) has sat on some of the plants. Thankfully they fluffed back out. There have been a couple of times I have found plants knocked onto the floor. I also noticed a few of the leaves were ‘chopped’ off, I’m thinking a chicken ate them. I’m finding it difficult to keep the chickens out of the green house and have been working on blocking their way in.
One of our goats managed to rip a hole into a window of the green house. If that wasn’t bad enough a chicken jumped through it, tearing it even more. At that time I had been in the green house, planting herb seeds when the chicken jumped through. 😪 The chickens have even made a couple of dirt baths in the green house.
There has been a black and white cat causing problems on our property. Mainly, the cat has been chasing our two cats. This last time after that cat chased our cat, it freaked out the ducks, which freaked the black and white cat out. The cat ended up slinking off but a chicken took off after it. I don’t know if the chicken pecked it or not but they had gone around the bushes. I have seen our chickens chase off crows, turkey and black vultures, so I’m not too surprised by it taking off after a cat running away. I wish they had cunningness with foxes. That would be awesome if they became the predator, chasing off the fox or racoons. Which by the way, we haven’t seen either of those this year. Fingers crossed we won’t see them for a long time!
The other cool thing to happen for us is Jacob bought a bag of corn for super cheap! The bag had busted open, so it wasn’t filled up to the top. We give the chickens corn at night along with their pellets. Corn doesn’t have any nutrition value, it’s kind of like their dessert. I think of it as their potato chips. They usually eat all the corn, go to bed, then jump down in the morning and eat the remaining pellets.
We did make a short video on youtube if you want to check it out below! I will post a video soon of the finished garden. Thanks for reading and I hope you have a great weekend!
