Happy Friday!
We have a few things growing in our green house! First up is our cucumber. I think I’m going to pick it real soon. We are not sure what type of cucumber it is so I’m a little unsure of when to pick it. 😬
Next is a little green bell pepper! At least that is what I think it is. A lot of our tags got mixed up when transporting the plants to the green house. We also have animals going into the green house, knocking things over.
Last is another pepper. I’m pretty sure this will be a hot pepper of some sort.
The peppers, eggplants, and tomatoes all have a lot of flowers! Hopefully we can get something from them. Thankfully, Darren from Downunder Farm and Forge left a comment on my last green house update video about self pollination. Basically plants in the night shade family may need to be self pollinated in a green house, which is basically me tapping the flowers to release pollen. If the plants had been outside the wind, bees, bugs, etc. would have knocked the pollen for us.
My zucchini, or what looked like my zucchini, shriveled up into goo. Really gross. I’m not sure what had happened with that. We had one cucumber plant die. However, as I’m typing this I’m thinking I will move my tomato plant stem that grew roots into that bucket.
In my backyard I noticed a tree in the back with bright yellow leaves! I believe it is a walnut tree. The picture below does not do justice on how yellow the leaves are!
The tree has green balls growing on it. I looked on the internet and saw black walnuts. They looked just like the balls below.
From what I have read, you’re supposed to harvest them when they fall on the ground and the ‘seed’ inside is pulling from the husk. We opened one of the balls. It was a mess. Jacob and I ended up with brown hands and finger nails 😭.
This picture does no justice for how brown my fingers are and how yellow the nails are! Ugh. I’m thankful I work from home. 😂 If I did have to go to work, I would definitely paint my nails.
Next time I will wear gloves!
Below is our mystery plant! I still think it’s a pumpkin plant. There are several flowers on it but nothing is growing yet.
I have been reading up on pumpkin plants. Seems like they have male and female flowers. It takes about 75 to 100 days with no frost for us to get pumpkins. I have my fingers crossed that we will see something!
Thank you for reading this post! I’m probably going to put up a short video on the walnut tree. Please subscribe to the youtube channel if you haven’t already. I will keep yall updated on all of our plants! Have a great weekend!
