We had a little bundle of joy show up on 1/13/19! Ava had her baby! I’ve already posted a video on her. If you haven’t seen it yet then check it out! She is super cute! We decided on the name Snow Nugget! 😀

Our other goat, Hazelnut, had given birth in September but both of her babies died. 🙁 We are not sure what happened. Since Ava had baby on the way, we made some changes to the goat house. The goat house went from a single room to two larger rooms. This allowed us to stand in one of the rooms. Another entrance was added. We were hoping the additional entrance would give Hazelnut room to go in and out without disturbing Ava and Snow Nugget (so cute!).

From Hazelnut’s babies we already had bottles and goat milk formula on hand. I had even put several jars of Hazelnut’s milk in the freezer just in case Hazelnut dried up before the baby came. We were more prepared.

We had no idea that Ava had her baby! In fact we had gotten done with the pine cone video earlier that day. When it was time to feed everyone and to milk Hazelnut, I noticed Ava wouldn’t go far from the goat pen. Then I saw she had some blood on her butt. I went into the goat house, holding my breath because I feared the baby might be dead or Ava might not have had it yet! I feared for Ava since this was her first delivery. Thankfully I found a cute little cotton ball baby goat standing in the house.

Ava has turned out to be a great mom! I know I haven’t posted much on our goats yet, but Ava is skittish. She doesn’t like to be petted…she sure doesn’t like hugs. Since her arrival she has gotten better at standing around us, trusting us more each day. Before she would run and hide.

Back to Snow Nugget. When I found her in the goat house, she was standing and dry! There were no other babies and Ava didn’t give birth to anymore. We just had one little snow ball.

Pretty girls in a row!

We’ll keep you updated on Snow Nugget and when I start milking Ava! That will be interesting milking her since she doesn’t like to be touched. Wish me luck! 😉
