Keeping your goat’s udder clean is essential to making sure you get non-contaminated milk and keeping your goat healthy!  In the beginning of our milking journey we used warm soapy water to wash our goat, Hazelnut.  Washing her this way was easy and simple.  It is a quick solution when you don’t have any udder wipes or spray on hand.  From the beginning I knew using warm soapy water was going to be temporary.  Sure, it cleaned her off but I wanted to use something that would also benefit her skin.  While using this method I did a lot of online searching to see what other people used.  I found a recipe that didn’t take many ingredients:

  • 4 Cups Warm Water
  • 2 tablespoon Castile Soap
  • 10 drops of essential tea tree oil
  • 20 drops of essential lavendar oil

Just mix the ingredients together!

We have been using these wipes for 3 weeks with no problem!  In fact when we were using the warm soapy water, Hazel had formed a couple of little pimples on her udder.  After using the udder wipes they disappeared.  We haven’t had any other problems.  Some different ways that you can use the mixture are: you can use a spray bottle, which means you will just need a cloth or wipe to dry her off,  a plastic ziploc bag, or a plastic container.  I decided to use a plastic lunch meat container.  I felt more confident having the wipes stored in a container virus the bag.  I didn’t have to worry about a bag getting punctured or falling over when retrieving a wipe.

Below I have posted a video on how to make the wipes!  Super easy!
