Wondering what to make for breakfast? How about french toast!? With my recipe you can either bake it in the oven or cook it on the stove top. Both come out delicious. However, my favorite is the oven. When it’s baking I can put on the timer, leaving it unattended, and make me a cup of coffee. 😀
Here are the ingredients:
- 3 Medium to medium large eggs
- 1/2 Cup milk
- 1/4 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
- 1 to 2 tbsp butter (for the stove top)
- About 4 to 6 slices of bread
- Servings: 4
French Toast in the Oven:
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Spray Non-cook spray in an 8×8 casserole dish.
- In the dish mix the eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla. Start with 4 pieces of bread, break off pieces and put them into the mixture. You might have to put in another slice or two so that all the bread pieces are coated but the mixture is not runny. In my recipe I use Arnold Country Sour Dough bread and that bread is a little bit wider than other breads…that’s why I used 4 slices. Below is a picture of what the bread looks like coated, ready for baking.
- Bake for 20 minutes.
My bread is evenly coated, ready for baking.
The finished french toast, scooped from the dish! Yum!
French Toast on the Stove Top:
- In a dish mix the eggs, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla.
- Using a non-stick pan, melt 1 to 2 tbsp butter on low medium to medium heat.
- Dip one piece of the bread, coating it, then flipping it to the next side to coat that side as well. I provided a picture below of my bread chilling in the mixture.
- Once both sides are coated, put them in the pan. It’s going to take 1 minute to 2 minutes on each side for it to cook. You will need to keep an eye on it. My stove takes a little over a minute on each side. Once it’s golden, flip it, cook again 1 minute to 2 minutes. The only down fall with this method is that you have to keep on top of it. If you leave the bread in the pan too long it will burn. Please don’t be like me, getting distracted and doing something else.
- Usually takes 4 to 6 pieces of bread. Just keep dipping bread until all mixture is gone.
Coat each side of the bread before putting on the pan.
The finished product! I like to cut the french toast into strips. Enjoy!
We love to top off our french toast with maple syrup!
